Thank you for a letter of the 16th September about the Chinese claims in Hong Kong.

Our note of the meeting with r. U is as r'allows:-

"On 12th August, 1945 we received, at the request of the colonial Office, Ar. HSU, the Director and General sianager of the Jardine Engineering Corporation. Representa- tives of the Foreign Office, Tramary, Colonial Office, Claas Comission, T. 2 and M.G.ü.7. were present.

ár. HSU was told that the war Trice accepted in principle the claim for the ompany's railway materials but at a valuation or about £185,000 only. Settlement was not possible
